The Extractive Industry Association (EIA) of the Northern Territory is an industry body representing those who extract and process the sand, gravel and crushed stone products which are used in their own right or as ingredients for the materials used in the building of the infrastructure which supports the development of the Northern Territory.
The Association presently has 33 members. The Executive meets monthly and quarterly dinner meetings are held with most members and an industry relevant guest speaker. EIA representatives also consult quarterly with the Northern Territory Government. The Department of Resources provides a venue for both their Department and other NTG Departments to meet and discuss any issues of interest or concern to all parties.
The Association lobbied on behalf of its members on
such matters as Council Amalgamation and rating of extractive tenements,
amalgamation of the Work Health and Mine Management areas, amendments
to the Mining Act, future access to areas where extractive leases are
located and provided feedback to Government via surveys and attendance
at forums.
The EIA has representatives on the NT Mining Board, the NT Level Crossing Safety Committee and has put forward a nomination to have a representative also on the Workplace Health and Safety Committee.
The Association has formed a working alliance with the Civil Contractors Federation and is in the process of signing off on a Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) and a Larrakia Good Will Agreement.
